There's something about Kilian Brothers pieces that make them some of my favorites. Their heavy mix of ebonization, polychrome paint (in some cases), heavy use of gilt-incising and Neo-Grec styling is very appealing to me and resulted in me adding one of their pieces to my collection a while back. Thanks to a Rare Vic reader, John B., I was notified of this attributed Kilian Brothers table currently up for sale on Ebay. I've also learned a new word from within the listing used to describe this piece of furniture - architectonic. I would agree based on it's definition that a lot of Kilian pieces are "architectonic".     Hmmmm, pretty table. I notice someone has made an offer and questioned the attribution to Kilian. In reply, the seller claims "In February, Neal's Auction in New Orleans had the same table with a different top. It sold for $5500 with the Buyer's premium. It's Kilian. Rare Victorian dot com attributes it to Kilian." Upon careful reading of John's post it's clear to me he did not authenticate this piece, he simply stated "I was notified of this attributed Kilian Brothers table currently up for sale on Ebay." A small point perhaps, however, out of such small points lawsuits sometimes arise.

    Yes, I always try to throw in an "attributed" as I did in this case unless it is labeled or an identical piece is labeled in another collection. I should come up with some personal standards so as to stay consistent with how and where the "attributed" label is presented and how clearly it is done so.
