John Henry Belter "Tuthill King" Pattern Recamier
John Henry Belter Tuthill King Meridienne I don't know about you, but there are so many bunches of grapes on this Recamier (or is it a meridienne?) that it makes me feel like I'm in a vineyard. This is an early John Henry Belter Recamier as evidenced by the applied crest, which is visible from one of the pictures of the back side at the listing. This is in the "Tuthill King" pattern, named after a Chicago real estate millionaire (when that meant something), who at the age of 81 remarried with a women nearly half his age which you can read about in this 1885 NY Times article. Yes, we men were pigs in the 1880's too. The upholstery has lost it's luster but other than that, it retains an original finish in good condition. In addition to this piece, Flomaton has several Belters coming up for sale in their May 3rd sale which you can peruse here.
